The 2016 Annual National Convention was held in New Delhi on Saturday, 22nd October, 2016 at the Taj Palace hotel. The theme for this year’s convention was “Opportunities in India for Canadian Businesses and How to Realise them.” Apart from Minister de Jong, the convention was attended by Mr. Munu Mahawar, Joint Secretary, AMS [Americas] Division, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India; and Mr. Jess Dutton, Acting High Commissioner for Canada to India.
Eminent guests such as Mr. B. Ashok, Chairman , Indian Oil, Raghav Chandra, Chairman NHAI, Dr. Saurabh Garg, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Ms. Anita George, MD CDPQ, Mr. K M Singh, Chairman, NHPC Ltd, Mr. Sujoy Bose, CEO NIIF, Mr. Jim Hopkins, Assistant Deputy Minister &Head Treasury, Ministry of Finance, British Columbia, Mr. Clark Roberts, Deputy Minister, Ministry of International Trade, Govt. of BC, Mr. Colin Hansen, President & CEO, Advantage BC, Yuen Pau Woo, President, HQ Vancouver were some of the notable speakers at the Convention.
The Convention focused on promoting business between India and Canada by creating linkages and potential opportunities for partnerships in the areas of Infrastructure, Energy, and Financial Services. Each session discussed the current day scenarios, the potential challenges that exist and the effective solutions that can counter these challenges. Honourabe Minister Michael de Jong while wishing everyone a Happy Diwali and complimenting India’s strong economic growth and opportunities stated that British Columbia is a mutual economic partner because of the stability it offers to investors. Additionally, he emphasized that with the launch of Air Canada’s direct flight from Vancouver to Delhi the two countries are closer than ever before.
